The "Up" in Grownup

When did we all get to be the "up" in grownup?
Yesterday, or so it seemed... we played house, played cops and robbers and went climbing trees in the woods behind the yard.
Those days of summer, laying in the grass looking up in the sky on a beach towel, those days of barely warm weather going down the slip and slide.
The days of fall where we got on the bus for yet another year of school. That funny smell of crispy leaves and school cleaner as you walked through the doors to the beginning...
Christmas break came with anticipation of holiday glow and tons of hope for snow.... sure it rained but there was that one in a dozen when that twenty-fifth morning of December came in a luster of white sheets over the green trees, made everything perfect.
Before we knew it high school came and ended in joy and tears. Parting of ways and new beginnings, invincible we seemed.
Soon college put those short twelve years into a distant past as if they were but a dream. How we have changed, how we have grown... grown together and apart.
Now being in college we are beginning to taste of this place everyone calls the real world. We still talk of what we will be when we grow up and what we will do to make our difference in the world, but what we do not always seem to realize is we are "up" not to say we have ended our progression, but have come to the point where we can make a difference in our world every moment of everyday.
We decided who we are and are deciding who we will become. Everyday a beautiful new opportunity, each offers a chance for learning, new insights, new experiences, a jump for joy and a few shed tears over the broken heart.
It is the accumulation of all things that we live each and every day that makes us a bit stronger, a bit better, a bit closer to our goals and dreams.
Now that we are "up" we continue to rise "up" to the occasion, we are rising "up" in hope to meet our full potential.... rising to all that we can be.
